Welcome to another edition of the Preshil Weekly.
Read on for the happenings in our school.
Year 7-10 Art Exhibition
Our Year 7–10 Art Exhibition at Abbotsford Convent was a wonderful celebration of student creativity and talent. We were thrilled to see such a great turnout from students and their families, who came to admire the impressive range and exceptionally high quality artworks on display.
A huge thank you to our dedicated art teachers at Blackhall for their outstanding planning and preparation in bringing this inspiring event to fruition.
Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition
The Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition of the Alliance Française of Melbourne has been running for 130 years. Arlington students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have volunteered to enter this competition for the past four years. This year, 16 students participated and two were finalists. The theme for 2025 was “L’Amour”, Love. The participants worked together as teams during Fruit, Lunch and in class. Many of our students involved their siblings, grandparents and parents in their preparation. In fact, one of our five year olds memorised the Year 5 poem!
The Alliance Française offers two poems for each year level. The students must memorise their choice of poem and recite it to an independent adjudicator on Zoom. Students are assessed on pronunciation, expression and correct vocabulary. Our students have drawn illustrations of their poem and included a line of the poem in the “J’Illustre” competition. Drawing their image of a poem helps each student with comprehension. The poems chosen by our students were:
Year 3: Marguerite, Jacqueline Pierre.
Year 4: “Petit Prince,” Jacqueline Pierre.
Year 5:” Bruxelles, je t’aime,” Angèle.
Year 6: “Le soleil aime la terre,” Jacques Prévert.
