PRESHIL WEEKLY

Hello Preshil community,

Welcome to another edition of the Weekly!

This week offered a rich tapestry of experiences, reflecting the diversity and depth of our vibrant community.

To begin the week, our Year 9 students set off on their Central Australia journey – the final of our carefully designed cohort camps. This immersive, ten-day program blends cultural immersion, service-learning, and adventure. Students will travel through the Red Centre, spending time on Country with the Kurku Homeland community, learning from Traditional Owners, participating in environmental regeneration and cultural activities, and experiencing meaningful connection to Indigenous culture and land.

It’s a powerful opportunity for our young people to build resilience, deepen relationships, and explore their responsibility as active citizens within a global and local context.

Meanwhile, Arlington is buzzing with excitement as preparations for the Winter Solstice ramp up. The creative energy across our learning spaces is unmistakable, with lantern-making now in full swing and songs being rehearsed for this cherished annual celebration.

Our Senior School students have also had a significant week. Year 11s undertook a round of IB practice exams, while both our Year 12 IB and VCE students completed the General Achievement Test – the first time since 2019 that both pathways have participated together.

On Monday, the Year 11 and 12 students prepared and served a wonderful dinner of Spanish and South American cuisines. This exchange of culture, language and food was warmly enjoyed later that day by staff and students.

We also hosted the 2025 Preshil Association Annual General Meeting – a valuable opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on the past year, and look ahead with shared purpose and care.

Amidst all of this, our dedicated teachers have been hard at work preparing Semester Reports – capturing the growth and accomplishments of our young people over this term.

I hope you enjoy reading.

Warmly,

Aaron Mackinnon
Principal

Spanish Kitchen
Year 11-12 students organised a fantastic Spanish and South American Supper, encompassing a range of recipes from multiple cultural and national cuisines. Working in shifts throughout the day, our students brought recipes they had translated specially for the occasion and put together a spread of tapas, desserts, and even some soup and tacos. Many students and staff attended the feast on offer at the end of the day, bringing welcome relief from a busy term.

A huge thank you to all the staff at Blackhall who helped with gathering the ingredients, supervising the cooking, and the clean-up afterwards!

Music at Preshil
The Doorstep Concert (senior school Friday June 13) and Big Day In Concert (junior school Thursday June 19) were a celebration of student creativity and musical growth, showcasing performances from almost every year level. These events were enthusiastically received by students, staff, and families alike. We are deeply grateful to our courageous young musicians, who dedicate themselves to their craft and generously share their talents with our community through performances like these.

Winter Solstice Rehearsals
This week, we began rehearsals for the upcoming Winter Solstice. We look forward to sharing these performances with you next week.
