PRESHIL WEEKLY
Hello Preshil community,
Welcome to another edition of the Weekly!
Please enjoy this recap of events from an enjoyable week.
International educators explore Preshil
This week we were pleased to welcome Mr Sam Yoo, Principal, and Ms Soojin Yang, Director of Student Engagement, at Daekyeung High School in Seoul, as part of their professional study tour. Daekyeung offers a unique hybrid model of senior secondary and university study across five creative majors, challenging traditional Korean curriculum structures.
They chose to visit Preshil for our reputation in progressive education, with a particular interest in how our physical environment and educational philosophy nurture creativity. It was a valuable exchange of ideas, and a chance to share how our spaces, programs and student-led learning pathways foster diverse future directions.
Visit from Melbourne Polytechnic Architecture Students
On Thursday morning, Peter Hogg, alumnus and head of Architecture at Melbourne Polytechnic, brought 30 students to visit the Arlington Site. They have been challenged to design a school, and Peter wanted to broaden their views on how a Primary School can be designed and function. Richard encouraged the students to study the form of the buildings, while also sharing his experiences as a child on the site. As the tour progressed, it was clear that these young architects were intrigued not just by our incredible setting, but also by our educational approach; how pedagogy and architecture intersect on the site, how children use the spaces, and also how heritage and compliance balance. It was an honour to share Preshil with these young designers.

Kindergarten
This term, we have begun our journey by immersing ourselves in the seasonal changes around us, using our senses to explore, discover, and create in nature.
As part of our Growing With the Seasons Inquiry, we are currently focusing on Guling, also known as the Orchid Season. Guling marks a time of significant natural activity: it’s koala mating season, wattles are bursting into bloom, caterpillars are marching across the landscape, and the mornings bring serious frost. The children are beginning to notice and connect with these natural patterns in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.
In parallel with our nature-based learning, we are also thoughtfully introducing the concepts of body safety and consent. These important topics are being explored in ways that are playful, respectful, and developmentally appropriate. Through stories, games, and discussions, the children are learning about their rights, personal boundaries, and how to communicate clearly and confidently.
Debating
This week Preshil continued to shine in the debating arena. The team were outstanding, with Ethan being selected as best speaker on the Topic; ‘ Should foraging for mushrooms require a license?’ Preshil beautifully positioned their argument against this proposal and won the debate.
Congratulations to our remarkable team.
