PRESHIL WEEKLY
Hello Preshil community,
Welcome to another edition of the Weekly!
Please enjoy this recap of events from an enjoyable week.
New Zealand Snow Trip
The students have had a fantastic week in Queenstown, quickly picking up skiing skills, following instructions well, and tackling plenty of runs with enthusiasm. Evenings have been filled with group dinners and fun competitions. Off the slopes, we’ve enjoyed activities like the Shotover Jet, Skyline Gondola and Luge, exploring Queenstown, and spending time with friends.
Save the date: 7-9pm Wednesday 17 September

One Man, Two Guvnors
Only two weeks to go! In just 14 days, the curtain rises on One Man, Two Guvnors — and our cast is more than ready to bring the chaos.
Set in 1960’s Brighton, this West End comedy is fast, farcical and completely unpredictable. Think mistaken identities, wild physical comedy, and a cast of students who’ve thrown themselves into every scene (and occasionally, into each other).
Rehearsals are full of energy, creativity and teamwork — the kind of learning you can’t fake. It’s bold, it’s hilarious, and it’s unmistakably Preshil.
21, 22 & 23 August – Chapel Off Chapel

Preshil Pottery
Archivists Libby Shade and Felicity Renowden have curated a collection of Preshil pottery for a brand new historical display at Arlington reception. The pieces have been in storage for many years and were created by some famous artists with connections to Preshil. Katie from the Peppercorns assisted in arranging the pieces and double checking the labels were correctly matched: “There are so many interesting pieces for everyone to enjoy, I really like the bowls.”
Peppercorns studying “The Kindness Project”
The Peppercorns are studying the novel “The Kindness Project” by Deborah Abela. It is a verse novel with some interesting graphic text elements and a highly engaging style. Written from the perspective of a girl in Year 6, the main character’s self-talk is varied, complex and relatable. The social challenges she faces and the thoughts she has have been the catalyst for some amazing conversations about our own wellbeing, how we see others and how we choose to interact. We have also had a go at writing in the verse style which Deborah Abela uses beautifully to convey the feeling of having the weight of the world on your shoulders pushing you down while you are trying to grow up.
Rachel: “I relate to some of the things the main character is going through. She also doesn’t seem as immature as main characters in other books.”
Ari: “The story explores how bullying makes people feel and why friendship is important.”
Gus: “I am always intrigued by what will happen next because one of the main characters is creative and he reminds me of myself.”
Rupert Guenther visits Preshil
We were delighted to welcome back to Preshil, alumnus Rupert Guenther, as our guest performer this week (Class of 1975). This truly inspiring visit from a Vienna‑trained concert violinist, composer, improviser, educator, and creative arts innovator, engaged the students and captivated us all during his moving performances.
His workshops offered students an extraordinary creative experience—inviting them into a journey of emotional depth, well‑being, improvisation, and self‑expression through soundscapes, electronics, cross‑arts collaboration, and holistic learning. Rupert’s commitment to nurturing self-esteem, mindfulness, and holistic artistic growth mindset resonates profoundly with our school values, leaving a lasting impact on all who participated.
The Melbourne premiere concert of Rupert’s new work based on the writings of Marcus Aurelius is at 2pm on Saturday 9th August.
Location: The Hellenic Museum. Of course any students or the Preshil community are welcome to attend, just need to book on Humanitix. https://events.humanitix.com/marcus-aurelius-concert-violinist-composer-rupert-guenther-a6dbfus7
