PRESHIL WEEKLY
Hello Preshil community,
To Another Term at Preshil!
There are moments as an educator when it’s hard to contain, or even explain, the tremendous, and overflowing sense of pride in what we are privileged to experience in the joy of seeing our community develop and young people thrive. Whether it’s watching two children navigate imaginary play in the garden, witnessing the awe of someone learning something for the first time, seeing young people advocate for change, experiencing the deepest form of kindness as peers support one another, or watching a student courageously step out of their comfort zone – these moments of connection, transformation, and togetherness remind us of the very best of what it means to be in a progressive community.
As I reflect on this term, it’s these moments, both big and small, that stand out. I’ve watched our community and our young people flourish. At Preshil, so much of our work draws on the inherent goodness of the young people we serve. We are not transactional, nor are we focused solely on who they might become in the future. We meet them where they are here and now, every day and we walk alongside them on their journey.
This term has been immense. We’ve experienced so many highlights that have brought about deep admiration and appreciation for the unique community we share. It is a collective effort. Our teachers and staff approach their work with courage, creativity, and a growth mindset, always willing to take risks in pursuit of meaningful learning. Our parents bring the broader community to life with their willingness to participate, show up, cheer on, cook sausages, and be unwavering supporters of our students and school. And of course, our students – the very heart of everything we do – whose curiosity, kindness, courage, and creativity continue to inspire us and push us to greater heights.
Thank you to everyone for what has been a fulfilling and rewarding term. I wish you all a refreshing break in the weeks ahead.

Warmest regards,
Aaron Mackinnon
Principal

Quiz Night
What do parakeets, a princess, pyjamas and a pumpkin have in common?
They all made an appearance at this years annual Preshil Quiz Night where guests were invited to come dressed as something starting with the letter P.
Alongside the wild costumes was a full house of sharp minds and the always brilliant Brian Nankervis (of RocKwiz fame) guiding us through it all.
A big thanks to Brian, and to the entire Preshil community, families, parents, carers and staff, who showed up with humour, heart and just the right amount of competitive spirit.
It was a night of laughter and connection. A reminder that community isn’t just what we build for our children, but what we create with each other.
We’d love to hear your feedback on the event whether you attended or not! Have your say here.
Preshil Wins Theatresports
Preshil has taken out first place in the Impro Melbourne Theatresports Senior Teams Competition (Years 10–12)!
Theatresports has been performed in Melbourne for more than three decades, inspiring students and teachers across Victoria. In this annual competition, teams of young improvisors come together in the spirit of creativity and support, challenging each other through games and scenes that celebrate quick thinking, collaboration and courage.
A special shout-out to Archie, who was awarded the Most Supportive Player medal. A true reflection of the generosity and spirit that makes Theatresports so powerful.
We are so proud of Ethan, Ellie, Archie and Mina for their originality, bravery and teamwork on stage.

DooDah
Another successful Doo Dah and we would like to thank Cannings Butchers for their generous donation of sausages, Toscano’s for their generous donation of fruit (pic to follow) and Baker’s Delight for our sausage bread!

VCE, VCE VM / IB ART Excursion Exhibition Tour to Plural Selves by Alumni David Rosetsky
The students at Blackhall attended the Boroondara Arts Centre this week to learn about the award winning photography of Alum, David Rosetsky. The exhibition features some of Rosetzky’s most iconic works alongside a newly commissioned series that directly engages with the LGBTQIA+ community of Boroondara.
Through video installation and photography, Rosetzky creates a compelling dialogue between different generations and experiences, staging personal narratives that consider the evolution of gender, identity and community over time. The exhibition is free and is running until Saturday 1 November.
Learn more about the exhibition here.
Year 10 Science
Our Year 10 Science students wrapped up Term 3 with an engaging hands-on mini-project, applying their understanding of physics to design and build paper roller coasters. The activity challenged them to think creatively while using concepts such as energy transfer, motion, and forces. Students worked collaboratively, testing and refining their designs to maximise speed and stability, while having plenty of fun in the process. It was a fantastic way to bring theory to life and celebrate their learning at the end of term.
