PRESHIL WEEKLY

Hello Preshil community,

Welcome to another edition of the Weekly!

We hope you enjoy reading about the week’s happenings across our school.

Lincoln Square Open Morning
Lincoln Square was buzzing this week as we welcomed around 40 prospective families to our Open Morning.

Throughout the morning, the space was filled with energy, conversation and curiosity, as families connected with our vision for the future and explored what learning at Preshil could look like in this new environment. It was particularly exciting to see such strong interest in our plans for the Senior Studio (Years 9–12), opening in 2028.

There is a real sense of momentum building, and it was wonderful to share this next step in Preshil’s journey with such an engaged and thoughtful group of families.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — we look forward to continuing the conversation.

Debating at Camberwell Grammar 2026
Last night at Camberwell Grammar, Preshil’s newly formed A Grade Debating Team for 2026 delivered an outstanding performance, narrowly losing by just one point while arguing the negative side of the motion “That the fashion and cosmetic industries do more harm than good.” The team represented the school with impressive composure, critical thinking, and teamwork.

A special commendation goes to William, whose second speaker speech and sharp, well-constructed rebuttal were truly exceptional. It was a sensational effort from the entire team and a very promising start to the season.

VCE VM  Students Launch Thursday Canteen
This week, our Vocational Major students proudly launched their Canteen initiative. Each Thursday, students take full responsibility for planning, preparing, budgeting and serving a delicious range of items to the school community, including Sylvie’s famous cookies and an array of savoury treats. This hands-on project is a fantastic example of applied learning in action, with students developing real-world skills in teamwork, enterprise, and customer service while contributing positively to school life.

Grow Your Mind at Arlington
At Arlington, we have just completed our fortnightly focus on the character strength of Perseverance, where children explored how to keep going with tasks even when they feel challenging, building focus and resilience over time.

In the final weeks of term, our Grow Your Mind focus shifts to Empathy. Empathy means trying to understand how someone else might be feeling and seeing things from their perspective. As children develop empathy, they learn to consider others, build positive relationships, and respond with care and understanding.

Each day, classes take part in our “Grab Five” wellbeing approach — short, consistent sessions that include mindfulness, positive self-talk, simple activities, reflection, and gratitude. These small moments help build a shared language around emotions and support children to connect with both their own feelings and those of others.

Preshil Alumni Kathryn Walker Returns to Preshil
This week, we were delighted to welcome alumni Kathryn Walker back to Preshil. Now a highly regarded graphic designer and social media specialist, Kathryn shared her expertise with students through an engaging, applied workshop focused on building and refining a professional online presence.

Drawing on her industry experience, Kathryn guided students in how to effectively use Instagram as a platform to showcase their work, communicate their personal brand, and connect with wider creative communities. Her insights offered a valuable bridge between creative practice and real-world application.

We thank Kathryn for her generosity in returning to Preshil and inspiring our students with her knowledge and experience. You can see Kathryn’s work here.

Preshil Alum John Perceval’s Exhibition at Heide Gallery
At Preshil, the arts have never been an extra. They’re part of how young people come to understand themselves and the world.

So it’s special to see our own John Perceval angel currently on exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art as part of John Perceval: All That We Are.

Perceval had a strong connection to the Preshil community. Like many artists and creative thinkers of his generation, he chose Preshil for his children and supported the school through generous gifts of art that still live among us today.

One of those works is now on loan to Heide for the exhibition.

Seeing this work recognised in a major exhibition is a reminder of something we’ve always known here: creativity and education belong together.

If you’re visiting Heide, it’s well worth seeing this extraordinary survey of Perceval’s work. Learn more and book your tickets here.

Free Autism Workshop for Parents
Positive Partnerships will be holding an upcoming free government-funded autism workshop for parents and carers. Held on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 May in Kew, the workshop is open to parents, carers, grandparents and kinship carers, a formal diagnosis is not required. Topics will include understanding autism, sensory processing, behaviour and strengthening home–school partnerships.
