Amanda shared with us some insights into how this came about and we applaud her for navigating this rigorous process (during a pandemic no less!):
I started my Fellowship with Deakin in August 2021. A Fellowship is an award for achieving excellence in higher education teaching. I was nominated to apply for this achievement by the Academic Director of Deakin College.
The application for the Fellowship was a rigorous process. I had to submit a written application that outlined my teaching and professional conduct, using only real examples of my work and achievements. I was assessed on my abilities within the classroom, my core knowledge of the subject material I taught and assessed on my professional values and my continued adherence to upholding these values throughout my career.
The Fellowship criteria are assessed against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning and were delivered online from the UK.
After going back and forth for over a year (it took me a while) I was awarded the status of Fellow (FHEA) on 10 October 2022.
Although specifically for tertiary education, this achievement means a lot to me professionally within the teaching field.
