PRESHIL WEEKLY

Welcome to the Preshil Weekly!

As we near the end of the term, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the wonderful activities and accomplishments this week at Preshil. This week, we had a fantastic turnout at both the Doo Dah and Big Day In events at Arlington, which were full of energy and community spirit. It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

A special congratulations to our Year 10 debate team, who participated in the octofinals on Thursday evening. Ethan, Hamish, and Tuesday did an outstanding job, advancing to the quarter-finals in the DAV competition. Their performance was exceptional, and it’s a moment of great pride for the entire school. A huge well done to the team for their commitment and hard work.

Wishing everyone a safe and restful weekend in preparation for our final week of the school term.

Warm regards,

Aaron Mackinnon
Principal

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Year 10 Debating Success
Congratulations to Preshil’s Year 10 Debate Team (Ethan, Hamish, and Tuesday) for progressing to the quarter-finals of the DAV competition. Their well-crafted arguments in the “Space is the Place” debate have secured them a spot among the top 8 teams in Victoria. This is an outstanding accomplishment, and we are incredibly proud of their effort and commitment.

Spring & Doorstep Concert Preparations
At Preshil, we are fortunate to have an incredible group of musicians who come together each week in the mornings at the senior school music room. Guided by our talented instrumental teachers, these diverse ensembles include parents, teachers, as well as both senior and junior students. They are currently preparing for two exciting performances: next week’s Doorstep Concert at Blackhall, starting at 1:20pm, and our much-anticipated Spring Concert on 17 October at 6pm in Kevin Borland Hall.

Boroondara Youth Leadership Day – Peppercorns
Our Peppercorn children recently participated in this inter-school event, which focused on developing leadership skills and promoting community engagement. The children worked in mixed teams with peers from other schools, exploring their shared responsibilities at school, at home, and in the wider community, particularly for those involved in extracurricular activities. They also examined the three levels of government, with a special emphasis on local councils and their roles and responsibilities.

Year 8 Changemaker at Arlington
We were thrilled to have Amanda and the Year 8 Changemaker students present their exciting Sushi School Lunch initiative at our whole school meeting. More information will be shared with families early next term so watch this space.

Hayes Paddock Excursion
On Wednesday, the Loft Room children, along with some of their families, visited the new playgrounds and facilities at Hayes Paddock, a recreational park in Kew East, for a picnic and some playtime.

Sunroom’s ASRC Bake Sale “Sunset Café”
Friday marked the second bake sale to raise funds for the ASRC. On Monday, the children will visit the ASRC site to learn how their fundraising efforts, along with the generous food donations from our families, support people seeking asylum in Australia.
