PRESHIL WEEKLY

Hello Preshil community,

Welcome to another edition of the Weekly!

Thank you for yet another great week. We’re excited to share with you the week that was.

One Man, Two Guvnors
That’s a Wrap! On Saturday night, our final performance of One Man, Two Guvnors played to a packed house, rounding off a season that was close to a sell-out.

Congratulations to our students for their talent, creativity, passion, commitment and dedication. Thank you for giving it everything.

Thank you to the staff who brought this production to life. Your steady guidance, creativity and care gave shape to every moment on that stage. Your belief in student-led work didn’t just support something special, it made it possible.

To everyone who came along to support our students, our school and local community theatre, thank you. You helped turn each show into a celebration of creativity, connection and courage. A final thanks to Chapel off Chapel for hosting our students in such a generous and professional space, one that was full of possibility.

Kimberly Akimbo
Last night, our Drama students in Years 9-11 went on an excursion to see Melbourne Theatre Company’s “Kimberly Akimbo”. A heartfelt musical that celebrated difference and showing empathy to others who are excluded from the norm. Not to mention banger tunes and Casey Donovan. We all had a great time!

Wear it Purple Day
Today Preshil came together to celebrate Wear It Purple Day, an annual event that honours and supports LGBTQIA+ young people. This year’s theme, Bold Voices, Bright Futures, reminds us that everyone deserves to be celebrated, respected, and proud of who they are and who they are becoming.

Students and staff lit up the library with fun, flair and fabulousness at the vibrant Purple Parade fashion parade, celebrated with a BBQ on the deck, played larger than life games in The Cage, and offered creative jewellery making in the Wellbeing Space. It was inspiring to see the whole community come together in purple with fun, flair, and solidarity to make the day truly memorable.

Humanities Class visit the Holocaust Museum
Last week the Year 9 /10 Humanities class visited the Melbourne Holocaust Museum to consolidate our learning on the Holocaust. The students were fascinated by the artefacts at the museum and it was very moving to hear from a Holocaust survivor. Staff complimented the students on their engagement and the interesting observations they made. This was followed by a screening of Persepolis at Classic Cinema, which is this term’s English text.

Debating Arena at Preshil
As we begin our Year 7 and 8 Junior Debating cycle, students have been working closely with their senior debating mentors to develop their skills in persuasive expression and public speaking. Guided through the key principles of Matter, Method and Manner, our junior debaters are learning how to construct well-reasoned cases, present with confidence, and understand the distinct responsibilities of each speaker on both the affirmative and negative sides. This mentoring program not only builds essential debating skills but also fosters collaboration between students across year levels, strengthening our culture of critical thinking and respectful dialogue.

IB Diploma and VCE Art Exhibition and Performance Evening
The students have been busy preparing for the upcoming Art Exhibition and Performance evening!

Join us on Monday 1st September for an evening that celebrates the culmination of our Senior Studies students’ creative work in the Arts.

STEM Teachers Award
We are thrilled to share that our very own Dr. Carolina Castaño-Rodríguez has been named a finalist in the Women of Colour in STEM Awards in the STEM Teachers category.

This prestigious recognition celebrates Carolina’s two decades of inspiring students in science through creativity, innovation, and genuine care, as well as her commitment to mentoring the next generation of STEM leaders. Even more special, one of Carolina’s former students and mentees is also a finalist in another category, a testament to her lasting impact both inside and beyond the classroom.

Please join us in congratulating Carolina on this outstanding achievement and wishing her all the very best for the finals!
