THE WEEK IN REVIEW

RUOK Day Design Competition
Preshil’s RUOK Day Design Competition, organised by staff members Nat and Lewis, encourages students to explore and express their understanding of mental health awareness through creativity. Participants are tasked with researching the RUOK message and designing their own promotional stickers, showcasing their unique interpretations. This initiative not only fosters artistic expression but also promotes important conversations about mental health among young people. The winning student sticker designs are now available for purchase, allowing the broader community to support this vital cause. By wearing these stickers, students and supporters can help raise awareness and encourage open discussions about mental health. Check out the winning designs and purchase your own bumper sticker here: https://www.trybooking.com/CVOPH

Sunroom & the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)
The Sunroom’s visit to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) this week was an incredibly valuable experience for the children. It helped them establish a meaningful connection with the organisation, while also affirming the strong sense of agency and compassion they are developing through the recent fundraiser stalls. We are truly grateful for the community’s support of the Bake Sales, as well as your ongoing contributions to the ASRC FoodBank tub.

Year 12 Spanish
Year 12 Spanish Ab Initio students had their final class for the term by visiting the local Colombian restaurant ‘El Tucán.’ They used their Spanish skills to order traditional Colombian dishes, celebrating two years of Spanish learning. The students tried Ajiaco, Plátano maduro con bocadillo, empanadas, sobrebarriga, and bandeja paisa. These students have worked incredibly hard throughout the course, and we wish them all the best as they head into exams next term.

Kinder & Lighthouse Buddies
This term, our Peppercorn students have embraced their role as Biggies to the Lighthouse and Kindergarten children. Through this program, the Peppercorns have engaged with their buddies through play and reading, fostering strong connections across different age groups. The children have particularly enjoyed reading together, playing games, building, and creating. The Peppercorns have demonstrated kindness, responsibility, and leadership. These relationships not only help the younger children feel more confident and comfortable, but also provide the older students with valuable opportunities for growth and empathy. We’re proud of the positive impact they’re making!

Year 8 I&S Exhibition
On Wednesday, Year 8 students presented their exhibition, “Peace and Conflict,” which explored the inquiry topic, “Conflict can be resolved in many ways”. Focusing on World War I, students exhibited topics such as the Christmas Truce, diseases in the trenches, female employment during the war, medical innovations, military advancements, and the impact of uniforms on soldiers. Students sourced or created artefacts such as photographs, letters, newspaper articles, and more, designing museum labels to convey the story behind each item. The exhibition offered insights into conflict resolution during the Great War.

Chinese Watercolour Painting
Adeline, Molly, and Piper explored Chinese watercolour painting during their electives, creating artworks of flowers, plants, and mystical creatures. Their beautiful pieces now brighten our school, celebrating both creativity and culture.
